Hey there readers. First big thanks for James for yesterday’s comment. We really appreciate it when our readers tell us what they think.
Tonight like many nights, the Mrs. will fall asleep before the “house hunters” reach their second location. I’ll kill the tube, grab my ipod and place my headphones over my ears.
These moments in the final hours of the day are special for me. It’s my time to do what I love – Listen to music – uninterrupted and without distraction.
Tonight’s selection is an EP called Nation of Heat by Joe Pug.
When people ask me why we started a music blog, I tell them so I could find Joe Pug.
I was first introduced to Joe reading Heather Browne’s music blog “I am Fuel You are Friends” she does a great interview with him too check it out.
Then Joe popped up again in Paste and I had to give him a listen. Honestly, the more I listen to this album the more I hear. It has really grown on me.
Joe Pug is our kind of guy once a playwright student at the University of North Carolina, one day he has a moment of clarity and realizes he has a calling to play music. He ups and moves to Chi-town! Swinging a hammer by day and his guitar at night he crafts Nation of Heat pickin up time in studios wherever he can.
Since May of ‘08 he has gone from playing Schubas Tavern to Bonnaroo.
And now the really cool part – he cares about his music.
The following is from his website and it is one of the coolest things I’ve ever read so I left it in its entirety.
“Friends, Romans, Countrymen…
If you’re insulted by the songs they loop on the radio all day. If you’re tired of your parents repeating the phrase “music meant something in my day” with baseless contempt. Here’s a chance to do something about it…
I want you to give my music away.
The thing is, there’s no subsidiary of Viacom shoe-horning my latest single onto radio playlists. There’s no carefully worded advertisements assaulting you at the bus-stop. There’s no ringles.
You heard about my music from a friend. Simple as that. Which means you listen to music because of its substance, not its convenience. And that’s precisely why I’m asking for your help.
Think of some likeminded friends who haven’t heard my songs. Then let me know how many sampler CDs I should send you to give to them.
All I need…
Name
Mailing Address
Email Address
How many CDs you want.
Send the requests to nationofheat@gmail.com
Thanks for your interest, thanks for your help…
-Pug”
Folks – take him up on his offer! And tell him the Farm sent you.
